Last Saturday, Luxembourg Cadets played at home Ottignies for Day 6 of Belgium Division 1. In the first 20 minutes, Luxembourg played the best rugby we have seen them playing this season and was rewarded with 5 tries and a bonus point in the pocket.
Ottignies never had the space or the time to play and these first minutes can be described at the rhythm of the Luxembourg tries: After only 2 minutes in the game, Luxembourg won an opposition line out, the ball was quickly recycled to the backs and Robert Irons found a gap and scored in the corner. 4 minutes later, from a turn over at the breakdown, Eloy Genest got the ball on the wing, kicked to himself and had the speed to beat the defenders and score. Another 5 minutes and the ball ran all the back line to ending in a 2 vs 1 situation and Robert had only to score. Only 2 minutes passed and the same move had the same result with Robert scoring his hat trick of the afternoon. Finally on the 20^th minute, another fine work in the forwards, guaranteeing a ball that seemed lost, and excellent passes in the backs sent Julian Vercruysse into space to another try. Martin Pacaud converted 3 of the tries.

After this thunderous start, Luxembourg slowed down a bit and started to concede a few penalties. Ottignies finally had some space and time to play and took the game to Luxembourg 22m. It was time to defend and the team did it superbly. Although, obliged to give away some penalties, the team stood firmly near the try line and Ottignies was not able to score. Half time arrived with the score at 31-0.
Second half was less exciting with all the action happening far from the try lines and too many interruptions due to technical mistakes or penalties. Nevertheless, Luxembourg still managed to score 3 more tries. On the 41^st minute, Martin took advantage of an enormous gap in Ottignies defence and scored. 4 minutes later, Gauthier Lachaise managed a nice run and scored under the posts. Both tries were converted by Martin. Finally, near the end, Christian Olsen picked up the ball from the back of a 5-m scrum and scored unchallenged, for a final round score of 50-0.

Another good display from the Luxembourg Cadets which places them in a comfortable third position in the table.

Man of the Match: Robert Irons

The fifth match of the season saw the SGG-RCL/CSCE U17s travel to the grounds of Rugby Club B.E. West in Belgium.

It was clear from the outset that things were not all going RCL’s way. With a number of players pulling out on the eve of the match for various reasons, the departure from the Glacis was then delayed whilst waiting in hope for a player to arrive, the bus then missed its exit, and it meant that the team arrived one player short with not much time left for preparation.

The number of new players arriving to rugby is ever increasing, and on the day, 4 new boys were making their debuts. With a couple of players playing out of position however, for once the Luxembourg team struggled to gel.

RCL/CSCE started well enough, playing down hill and with the sun in their backs, and soon got points on the board, with Sean Ferreira scoring the try and Hamish Cullen converting. However, from then on, penalties seemed to be going against the Luxembourg team, allowing the opposition back into the game, scoring with 2 penalty kicks, followed by a try, making it 13-7 to the hosts. A late rally from RCL/CSCE looked to have tipped the balance back into the favour of the Luxembourg team, but what looked a certain try in the last minute by Pablo Vineis was disallowed by the referee.

A missed opportunity for the RCL/CSCE team to close the gap with Nivelles, who are still ahead on top of the league, leading by 4 points. With RCL still having to play Nivelles home and away, the objective of promotion is therefore still on track with four wins and four bonus points from five games.

Last Saturday Luxembourg went to Brussels to play BUC for Day 5 of Belgium Cadets Division 1 having in mind a victory plus a bonus point would comfort their excellent 3^rd place in the championship.

Despite playing for the first time in a synthetic pitch, they didn’t spend too much time analysing the pitch or the opposition. From the kick off, Luxembourg won the ball deep in BUC territory and, after a few rucks, the ball run all the back line to finish in the hands of Christian Olsen alone on the wing. 10 minutes later, Luxembourg scored again. This time, from a good line out, the ball went quickly to the back line and Martin Pacaud took advantage of a big gap in BUC’s defence and scored in the middle of the posts.

After this storming start where the BUC team was just defending and only small mistakes in the last transmission prevented a few more tries, Luxembourg lowered the intensity allowing BUC time to think and play their best weapon: a stronger and heavier forward pack. Both forward packs were monopolising the ball now but without any real threat.

However, just before half time, another good run from Martin followed superbly by Olivier Lambert ended with Martin scoring again. Martin converted two of the tries and half time arrived with the score at 0- 19.

Knowing the bonus point was just one try away, Luxembourg started second half like they did on first, scoring very quickly. And what a try it was: the forwards got a turn over at a breakdown close to the BUC end zone; the ball was quickly recycled finding the back line flat. Receiving the ball static, Martin passed between the legs to Gauthier Lachaise, very quick hands gave the ball to Oliver who fixed the last defender to free Gwenael Gibeaux on the corner. Opposition players, spectators and even the referee couldn’t believe what they just saw: the perfect try and a serious candidate for try of the season.

Somehow, this try revived the opposition’s proud and with a bit of relaxation from Luxembourg, BUC scored a deserved try after the forward pack went in force over the line.

The game became less structured with much more solo actions than collective. From one of these, Gauthier scored after going through all the BUC defence alone. BUC regained composure and scored a second try on the 46^th minute. From a scrum at 5m, BUC attacked the blind side scoring in front of the distracted Luxembourg defenders.

Before the end of the game, Gauthier still had time to score his second try of the afternoon and the sixth for Luxembourg. This time, the forwards took the game to one side of the pitch and, on the first opportunity, the ball was quickly recycled to the backs and Gauthier went unstoppable till the try line.

Final score: 10-34

Kibubu 20 - RCL/CSCE 42

The fourth match of the season saw the RCL/CSCE U17s travel to Kibubu near Brussels. Perfect autumn conditions welcomed the team rather more warmly than the makeshift changing rooms deep in the bowels of a car park! 
Considering the number of players who are new to Rugby this season, and indeed a few who were playing their first game, the Luxembourg team gelled remarkably well with good aggressive rucking and some elusive running soon paying off. Kibubu are also a new team with several debutante players this season and a combination of some of the RCL and CSCE more seasoned players and some spirited performances from the newcomers proved too much for the home team. RCL/CSCE started quickly and soon got points on the board. A few missed tackles briefly let Kibubu back into the game, but RCL/CSCE soon re-established their superiority, eventually winning the game 42-20 with tries from Hamish Cullen (3), Robert Hopwood, Johannes Vasques, Andreas Hacker and Sean Ferreira. 
RCL/CSCE are now second in the league, with Nivelles top of the league by virtue of having played one more game. We enter a rest period now until 12th November, which will give us a chance to work on fitness and continue to enhance the skills of the many newcomers. 
The goal of promotion is well on track with four wins and four bonus points from four games.

After a defeat at Boitsfort which left a bitter taste, last weekend Luxembourg Cadets travelled again to play Soignies, one of the best teams in Division 1.

Both teams started the game in a very high intensity but Luxembourg took control and stayed very much in the opposition half. This territorial occupation was rewarded with two penalties but, helped by the strong wind, the kicks went slightly wide.
However, on the 6^th minute, Luxembourg forwards played superbly the breakdowns and kept going on slow balls near Soignies 22m. The first quick ball was recycled to the backs, where perfect passes fired Robert Irons into space to score.
Martin Pacaud converted for a 0-7 on the score.
From the restart, Luxembourg made the classic mistake of letting the ball bounce on the ground, fumbled with the ball and Soignies were rewarded a penalty when one of Luxembourg players kicked the ball and a team mate played it in front of him.
Soignies went for the lineout and from there mauled the ball to the try line. The equaliser came with a superb conversion.
With the equaliser, possession and territory was better distributed between the teams but on the 20^th minute Luxembourg got another break. Very much like the first try, the forwards negotiated perfectly several rucks, fixed the defenders
and when the ball went to Martin, he took advantage of the space to penetrate the opposition defence. When he was tackled near the line, Eloi Genest was in support and just had to score. Martin converted to put the score at 7-14.
With the defences being much superior to the attacks, the only threatening action in the rest of the half came from a lineout at 5m for Luxembourg but a foul on the ground prevented another try.
On second half the home team came with another disposition and decided to invert the score. Being less aggressive in the breakdowns, with a few problems in the line outs and in the kicking game and with a few dubious decisions, Luxembourg spent most of the second half defending in their 22. A strong defence and a bit of luck here and there, didn’t allow any change in the score. Luxembourg even managed to have some opportunities when three counter attacks from Robert spread the panic in Soignies defence and took the ball deep in Soignies 22. However, poor support or bad positioning gave the defenders the opportunity to stop the actions.
The final whistle came with the score unchanged at 7-14.
In the overall a well deserved victory for Luxembourg colours as they scored when they were superior and defended bravely when they were not.

This result puts Luxembourg in an excellent third place in Belgium Cadets Divison 1.

Like last season we’ll have players in standby. There’s always a chance of a last minute absence due, for instance, to sickness and there’s always a chance you will play. So, please, bring your rugby gear.

I know everybody wants to play this game and some of you will be disappointed for not being selected or not being in the starting team. Although it’s a game at the top of the league, for us it’s just another game. Whatever the score, nothing will change.

We are playing at this level because we don’t have only the 15 players who are allowed on the pitch at the start of the game. Everybody is important and sometimes the player not in the 22 is more important than the others. It’s because of him the others perform well and he can enter the team at any time. I have to make a choice and, believe me, I don’t take it lightly and it’s not an easy one. When the decision is taken is always thinking about what’s best for the team. Saturday, Luxembourg Cadets started a new adventure and a big challenge of playing for the first time in Belgium Division 1. They couldn’t have a better start. Facing a very good team from ASUB which missed last season play offs only on score difference, Luxembourg controled the game and scored in the right moments to finish with the final score 18-0.

Both teams started nervously, trying to figure out what they were facing. Luxembourg adapted first and slowly began to get some advantage in set pieces and managing some turnovers. On the 8^th minute, from one turnover in ruck, the ball was quickly recycled and Martin Pacaud found the space in ASUB defence to enter and score between the posts. The rest of the first half was spent mostly in the middle field with both teams defending better than they were attacking. Luxembourg was always a little more threatening but the score didn’t change and with Martin converting the try, half time arrived with a deserved 7-0 for Luxembourg.

One could expect ASUB wouldn’t give up easily and would try to come back right from the beginning of second half but Luxembourg had the kickoff and ASUB gave away a penalty for off side after a couple of phases. A clever decision to go for the posts plus the ability of Martin and the score was 10-0 just after one minute.

ASUB fought back and took the game close to Luxembourg’s 22 but they were never in position to score points. From another turnover on the 43^rd minute the ball was superbly handled by the back line all the way close to the opposition 22 and a great support from the 3^rd row set Christian Olsen to the second try. ASUB seemed a little disoriented and Luxembourg was now dominant everywhere but unable to take more than another penalty converted by Martin on minute 51.

Not wanting to end the game with zero on the score, ASUB managed to find the energy and motivation to spend the last five minutes close to the try line. Luxembourg roll up the sleeves, defended well and the final whistle arrived with the score 18-0.

This was an excellent rugby game with both teams committed and playing in a very good spirit. Luxembourg showed a great personality and displayed an excellent performance with very good rugby. Continuity was great; defence excellent and only small mistake when attacking prevented them of a better score.

Last Saturday, Luxembourg Cadets received Schilde for the last game of the regular season.
With promotion to Division 1 guaranteed, the Cadets wanted to finish in beauty playing good rugby and staying unbeaten in front of the best crowd we have seen at Cessange this season.

Maybe because they wanted to perform too well in front of the huge number of parents and friends present or maybe because the team was in its large majority composed of first year Cadets, in first half we saw a Luxembourg team too anxious to be able to perform well and struggling to keep the usual fluidity of their game. They allowed Schilde some possession which ended in a try on the 22^nd minute. Fortunately, before this try, Martin Pacaud had kicked two clever kicks deep in the opposition half and the good follow up ended with Gauthier Lachaise scoring the first try and Martin scoring the second.

Even struggling to keep their rugby structured, Luxembourg scored two more tries before half time when Michi Rizzi came behind a scrum to score and a very good counter attack ended with Gauthier scoring again. Martin converted 3 of the tries and at half time the score was 26-5.

If in first half Schilde could contest for possession and territory, second half was all Luxembourg. Reentering the pitch less nervous and much more composed, Luxembourg superiority was never in doubt and the reward came with 6 more tries. Julian Vercruysse scored two on the wing after very good transmissions in the back line. Gauthier scored his third in the afternoon with a solo run after receiving the ball from a restart. Robert Irons scored in a good counter attack and Martin added two more. Martin converted 5 to settle the final score 66-5.

Another good performance from the Luxembourg Cadets to end this excellent season unbeaten, having scored 731 points in 12 games, conceding only 42 and showing a discipline in and out of the pitch applauded by referees and adversaries. This result is even more impressive knowing Luxembourg aligned 45 players (3 whole teams!) in official games with 23 players scoring points. It shows the quality and depth of junior rugby in Luxembourg and how things look promising for the big challenge in Division 1 next season.

This season 43 of you have already experienced to be on the pitch in an official game. We’ll give the same opportunity to some more on Saturday. For the players selected I’m counting on your usual commitment. For the players not selected, you know you’re fully part of the team and it just happens you don't play this game. There will be plenty of opportunities next season and don't forget it will be First Division.

Luxembourg:

Luxembourg travelled to Charleroi knowing a victory would secure the promotion to Division 1 but also knowing it could be a difficult game against the 3rd in the table.
The suspense didn’t last long. With a demolishing 15 minutes where they score 5 tries, Luxembourg stopped short any hopes Charleroi could have to contest the game.
It started on the 2nd minute when, in the opposition half, Luxembourg won a scrum against and after two fast passes Callum Bonallo took advantage of a gap in defence.
From the kick off, the ball was well caught, the forwards fixed the defence and the ball went all the way the back line to find Christopher Rossa in space. Simple but efficient.
On the 11th minute, Luxembourg was awarded a penalty at 5m. The forwards fixed the defence and Martin Pacaud entered in the gap. From the restart kick another try and the same simple but efficient play. Ball in forwards, defence fixed in the ruck and the ball recycled to the backs. This time Gauthier Lachaise made the final run.
After this storming start, Luxembourg relaxed and became more individualist, giving away penalties after tackle or losing the ball for lack of support. It gave Charleroi some territory and time with the ball.
On the 22nd minute, from one of the penalties, 5m from the line, Charleroi forwards managed to force their way to the try line.
Charleroi reaction had the effect of alert for Luxembourg and quickly they were back in the game scoring two tries just before half time.
After taking the game close to the opposition end zone they were awarded a penalty. The forwards were stopped near the line but from the subsequent ruck, the ball went to Christopher and he scored.
One minute later and from another penalty at half way, the ball was quickly played to the backs founding Martin on the wing with space to run. Martin converted 5 of the tries and half time arrived with the score at 45-7 to Luxembourg.
Second half wasn’t much different and curiously ended with exactly the same score as first half. Luxembourg started well again and scored after 3 minutes on the game.
Starting from own 22, the back line moved the ball perfectly and Julian Vercruysse scored on the corner. Charleroi reacted and were awarded by another try.
On the 36th minute, from a lucky penalty and very much like their first try, Charleroi forwards forced their way to the try line. It didn’t impress Luxembourg and with fresh blood on the pitch, the boys went to business as usual.
41st minute and Christian Olsen went to the end zone in force after several rucks. 6 minutes later, Callum made a solo run and when tackled the close support gave the ball to Christopher to score.
Two more minutes and Callum found another gap in defence. Charleroi finally gave up and Luxembourg could score 3 more tries in the last 5 minutes. Christopher started a solo run in his 22 ending with a try.
Callum scored his third of the afternoon after a good back move and in the last seconds, Christopher had still time to pass the defence and to give the ball to Pedro Ramos who only had to touch the ground.
Martin converted another 5 tries to settle the final score at 90-12 to Luxembourg.
This was certainly the best performance of the Luxembourg Cadets this season. The way they played, with close support always available, conquerors in the rucks, dominant in line outs and scrums
and finishing with perfect timed passes never gave opposition any chance.
With this victory Luxembourg Cadets are virtually champions of Belgium Division 2 and promoted to First Division. Congratulations.

With a lot of absences due to injuries, illness and school holidays Luxembourg aligned a very young team with some boys playing in positions they are not used to and two boys making their start in the first team. This and knowing Liege has more quality then their position in the table might suggest, could make on doubtful about the final score.

However, the boys were not impressed. Opening the score right after the start of the game and with a devastating first half, any hopes Liege could have were soon vanished and the spectator never had any doubt about whom the winner would be.

In the first 15 minutes Luxembourg dominated all the action and was rewarded with 3 tries by Christopher Rossa on the wing. The first came inside the second minute when the forwards took the action to the right. The ball was played quickly and all the way to the left finding Christopher with plenty of space to run. The second and third were almost identical: scrum on the right, the backs ran the ball with perfect passes and the rest was Christopher’s speed into space.

Around the 20^th minute, Luxembourg scored two consecutive tries. The first one was an all forwards effort as they negotiated well 5 successive rucks till the ball ended with Yannick Boone scoring in force. After receiving the ball from kick off, the action went again to Liege 22. A couple of good rucks and passes allowed Robert Irons to find a gap and score.

Before the end of the half, Luxembourg scored again two tries. Luxembourg counter attacked from a Liege deep kick only to lose the ball after the tackle. A Liege player made a careless pass intercepted by Leopold Dumont who just had to run to the try line. In the dying seconds of the first half, another deep kick this time perfectly negotiated by Martin Pacaud avoiding the defence and scoring. Benji Simpson converted all the tries and half time arrived with the score at 49-0.

Both sides continued to work hard in second half but there was less entertainment then in first half. Liege came to the pitch with the intention of not being completely crushed and spent most of the first 10 minutes testing Luxembourg‘s defence. The boys stood firm and took well everything Liege threw at them although a couple of actions were stopped dangerously close to the end zone. With Liege unable to score, the game became less interesting with actions in both sides of the pitch but no real danger. The only moments worth mentioning are the last two tries to

Luxembourg. On the 11^th minute, William Dennis scored in a solo effort penetrating into Liege defense from his half. On the 48^th minute and when Liege started kicking a lot more, a good catch on the wing, a quick ruck and a couple of good passes sent Martin on an enormous gap to score his second in the afternoon. Benji converted all but one of the tries and the final whistle came with the score 61-0 to Luxembourg.

Last Saturday Luxembourg U17 went to Visé for Day 9 of the Belgium Cadets Division 2.

Since the kickoff Luxembourg took control and on the third minute scored the first of ten tries. From a scrum at 5m, the forwards took the action close to the side line. The ball was shifted quickly to the backs and Callum Bonallo entered in the gap between the opposition centers. Five minutes later, from a scrum in Luxembourg half, a nice loop pass created the numeric superiority to send Christopher Rossa into space. Another five minutes and Callum scored his second. This time getting the ball from a quick penalty close to the end zone and entering in the centre. On the 17th minute it was for Christopher to score again. The forwards got a turnover on the right and the ball ran all the backs to the left where Christopher managed to beat the only defender left.

Just before half time Luxembourg scored their 5th try of the afternoon. The same simple but effective moves as in the previous try but this time was Martin Pacaud who scored on the wing. Benji Simpson was perfect with the kicking and half time arrived with the score at 35-0 for the visitors.

Second time was more difficult. With a strong wind in their backs, logically, Visé opted for a more kicking game. It paid right in the first minute when a long ball to Luxembourg 22 was badly handled and gave the chasing Visé player the opportunity to score. This try motivated Visé to keep the pressure but Luxembourg stopped short any thoughts they could have of discussing the score. Only two minutes passed when Visé had a taste of their own poison. After another long kick, Luxembourg caught the ball and initiated a perfect counter attack with the ball always available after each tackle thanks to a good support. The final pass went to Yannick Boone who scored.

Five minutes later another good collective move opened a gap in defense and Benji entered to finish in style.

With the strong wind against them and some players not in their usual positions due to small injuries, Luxembourg game became a bit less structured. Visé kept kicking the ball on every opportunity but with no effect. However, at the end of the game, Luxembourg still had the resources to score three tries in five minutes. First by Robert Irons running all the way after catching another long kick, then by Pierre Ducreuze forcing is way to the try line from a ruck and, in the last minute, Martin scored again from a counter attack he started in his own half and finished after the support managed to keep the ball alive all the way to the opposition 22.

Benji had almost a perfect kicking afternoon converting 9 of the 10 tries only missing because a wind gust sent the ball backwards near the posts.

Another fine display from the Luxembourg Cadets which puts them top of the league 5 points ahead of the second team and closer to promotion to First Division.

Luxembourg Cadets travelled to Schilde to defend their position at the top of Division 2 and for a much more difficult game than the relative positions of the two teams would anticipate.

With a strong start and helped by a lot of handling errors from Luxembourg, Schilde camped in Luxembourg’s half for the first 10 minutes. Although having unusual problems in attack, Luxembourg’s defense stayed solid and the opposition never really had an opportunity to score. The first break came at the 10^th minute from a good counter attack. Luxembourg got a turnover in their 22m. For the first time in the game, the ball ran all the back line and Christopher Rossa had space on the wing to beat two defenders and score in the middle of the posts. Matthew Hopwood converted the easy kick.

From this somehow undeserved try, Luxembourg started slowly to rebuild their composure and getting more ball possession. The last ten minutes of first half were the best in the game with Luxembourg now dominating all aspects of the game. They were rewarded with two tries. The first, at the 23^rd minute when Matthew penetrated Schilde defense and two perfect passes found Callum Bonnallo with space to score. 2 minutes later, another good work from the forwards on the right and a good run from the backs gave Christopher his second try of the afternoon. Matthew converted the two tries and half time arrived with the score at 0-21.

After good finish in first half, one would expect Luxembourg to be dominant in second half. It didn’t happen. Luxembourg went back to the same mistakes. This time even worst as they were having now trouble in all the set pieces and breakdowns. Without ball, Luxembourg had to suffer Schilde dominance. Fortunately, defense remained solid and the final score was never questioned. Not surprisingly, Luxembourg could only score from a Schilde error. On the 48^th minute, Schilde fumbled with the ball close to their 22m, Christopher picked it up and passed to Xavier Boone to score. Matthew missed the difficult kick. Close to the end of the game, Schilde got their deserved points. After a couple of threatening actions close to the end line, Schilde dropped the ball. Luxembourg lost the following scrum at 5m and gave away two penalties in the breakdown. From the last one, Schilde charged all the way to the line. Final whistle arrived soon after with the score 5-26.

It was a bad day for Luxembourg boys whom never really got into the game. Too many errors gave opposition too much ball possession and nothing from where to build effective attacks.

Winter pause arrives now with Luxembourg at the top of the league and a comfortable margin to face the second half of the season.

Last Saturday Luxembourg Cadets travelled to Brussels to play Day 7 of the Belgium Division 2 and for another victory which puts them in a comfortable position at the top of the league.

It couldn’t start better. Barely 30 seconds into the game and straight from the Barbarians kick off, the ball was recycled to the backs and Christopher Rossa on the wing had the space and pace to conclude in the middle of the posts. Benji Simpson converted the easy kick. Taken by surprise the Barbarians reorganized and managed to stop Luxembourg charges for almost 15 minutes. Eventually the break came when Pedro Ramos took a quick penalty in the opposition 22. He was stopped near the line but passed to Julian Vercruysse in the empty space. From there Luxembourg couldn’t be stopped any more. 3 minutes later, from a ruck inches from the try line, Yannick Boone took the ball and had just to fall in the end zone. Another 3 minutes and the Barbarians fumbled with a ball coming from a scrum. Opportunistically, Jaime Barragan got the ball and scored. One minute later we saw the best try in the afternoon. Receiving the kick off from the previous try, Luxembourg went to a ruck. The ball came quickly to the backs and went all the way to Christopher who managed to slalom in the Barbarians defense before scoring. Benji converted 3 of the tries to settle the score at 0-33.

In the last 10 minutes of the half, Luxembourg lost a bit of the organization they were showing, preferring individual actions and showing some indiscipline in the breakdown. As a consequence, not only the Barbarians could at last have some space to play but they could score near the end of the half after an interception in Luxembourg’s 22. The easy kick was converted and half time arrived with the score 7-33.

If the try gave the Barbarians some hope they could contest the game, it was quickly swept away. On the 3^rd minute, William Denis went for a nice break panicking the entire defense. The ball went to the side only to found 3 Luxembourg players without any opposition. Christian Olsen had the easy try. From here it was just a succession of Luxembourg charges to the opposition end zone with some of them ending with good tries. First, Benji got a ball from a scrum and entered in the middle to score. A few minute later, Callum Bonallo did the same but was stopped near the line. The offload went to Gauthier Lachaise who scored. On the 22^nd minute, Christian got a ball from a line out against, the ball ran all the backs to Christopher on the wing for his second hat trick of the season. Two minutes later, two rucks well negotiated and a couple of good passes gave William the opportunity to score. On the 26^th minute, a good counter attack from a Barbarians kick put Pedro in a good position. When tackled, the offload went to Callum who just had to score. Finally, in the last minute, Benji scored his second of the afternoon. Final score 7-72

Another fine display from the Luxembourg Cadets Excepting the last 10 minutes of the first half, Luxembourg played collective - with 9 players scoring tries – moving the ball fast and being superior in all aspects of the game.

Last Saturday Luxembourg Cadets traveled to Mons for another game at the top of Division 2. Rain, cold, a strong wind and a muddy pitch were waiting for them. This and a Mons team highly motivated by the last results and wanting to show the heavy defeat in the first game was only an accident, made it clear since the first second this game would be hard work.
After taking the first impact of Mons and showed they can play "all seasons", Luxembourg went ahead on the score at the third minute. It started with a good move in the backs which sent the ball to the left for Christopher Rossa to be stopped near the line. William Dennis and Benji Simpson passed superbly and Matthew Hopwood found space between the centers to enter and score. Benji converted for the 0-7.
With the wind blowing in their back, Mons started kicking a lot and managed to put an enormous pressure in Luxembourg’s defense. The boys didn't get impressed, defended remarkably and all Mons could get was 3 points from a penalty at the 20th minute. Feeling the danger, Luxembourg started to alleviate pressure by being dangerous in counter attack. Near the end of first half the reward came with another try. Matthew recovered a ball in his half and slalomed for 30m in the middle of the disorganized defense. A perfect timed pass set Christopher free on the wing to score in the middle of the posts. Benji converted and half time arrived with the score at 3-14.
Correcting some mistakes done in first half and with the wind now in their back, Luxembourg dominated the second half literally parking the game in the opposition half. It was time for Mons to defend and they did it well till the 42nd minute when Lucas Lowther charged-down perfectly, got the ball and was stopped near the try line. Mons entered from the side in the subsequent ruck and from the penalty at 5m, Yannick Boone was stopped near the line but passed to Benji whom just had to fall and score for the 3-19. With the game under control and a comfortable score, Luxembourg waited for the end of the game keeping Mons well deep in their half. Just before the final whistle, Robert Irons caught a panic kick in the middle and went all the way to the try line. Benji conversion settled the final score 3-26.
In very difficult conditions the boys showed the stuff of champions. With an outstanding George Penn showing the way, all the boys played the game as it should be played and the spectator hardly doubt whom the winner would be.
With 4 points ahead on top of the league, Luxembourg Cadets are getting in a very good position for the promotion to first Division. Still there's a long way to go but if they keep the team spirit, hard work and humbleness they have been showing, promotion will not be just a dream.

As one can guess from the score, this was very much a one way game. With Charleroi presenting 13 players - some of them U15 - they were courageous but couldn't never challenge Luxembourg.
Any hopes the visitors had were quickly dissipated when, right in the first minute, Martin Pacaud intercepted a ball in his 22 and went all the way to the try line. From here, with Benji Simpson
enjoying plenty of freedom and Christopher Rossa finding boulevards on the wing, first half can be described by the 8 tries Luxembourg scored. Christopher scored an amazing 5 tries.
Pierre Ducreuzet and Benji with one try and 6 conversions settled the score 52-0 at half time.
Second half wasn't much different. Matthew Hopwood, Robert Irons, Gauthier Lachaise twice, Mario Bus twice and Benji with one try and 4 conversions took the final score to 95-0.
Although the rugby played sometimes lacked structure and there were a few concentration mistakes, which is normal under the circumstances,
Luxembourg boys played a serious game, respecting the opposition and the spectators.

With both teams unbeaten after 3 games, Luxembourg U17 went to Laakdal to play the game at the top of the League, knowing this would be one of the toughest games of the season.
First half proved they were right. A good start from Laakdal and some puzzling decisions from the referee put an enormous pressure in Luxembourg defence and the boys conceded the first points of the season after only two minutes.
Putting aside any fears this early try could imply for the result of the game, the team reacted with personality and maturity. Avoiding the indiscipline in the breakdown showed in the last games,
the team kept its organisation and came back to the score very quickly. On the 6th minute, the backs made a good breakthrough on the right which unfortunately ended with a knock on.
Starting to show their dominance in the scrums, the boys recovered the ball and ran it all the way to the left where Christopher had the space and the speed to reach the try line in the middle of the posts. Benji converted to put the score at 7-5.
Till half time Luxembourg stayed dominant in possession and territory - with an enormous superiority in the scrums and line outs - but couldn’t manage to score again.
Sometimes because they were facing a good defence, others because the decisive passes were missing. Half time arrived with the score still at 7-5.
If there were doubts about the winner of this game they were quickly dissipated. Correcting the mistakes in terms of efficiency and taking advantage of the temporary numeric inferiority and fatigue of the opposition,
the story of second half is almost the story of the 6 very good tries.
Right in the second minute, another well played scrum in the middle of the pitch, set Benji - who saw the hole in defence - into space and when defence came passed the ball to Matthew to score.
5 minutes later, Pedro took a ball from a scrum at 5m, was stopped near the line and from the quick ruck the ball went to Benji to score. Another 5 minutes and the boys scored again.
They got the ball from a Laakdal line out at 10m, went for a maul and Lucas just had to fall in the line.
On the 15th minute, the backs got a ball in their 40m and after two perfect passes, Christopher had space on the left to score his second try of the day.
On the 56th minute, another good play ended in a try. Robert received an opposition kick in our half and countered attack on the right. When Martin was stopped in a desperate defensive action,
a good support allowed a quick ruck and the ball went to Benji to score his second in the game.
Just before the final whistle the boys still had time to score the 7^th try. Pedro took a quick penalty, gained 15m and passed to Martin to score in the empty space. Benji converted 4 of the tries settling the final score 45-5 for Luxembourg.
A very good display from the boys against a good team. Patience and discipline settled the basis for magnificient tries and a very good result. Well done.

With five changes in the starting team and a few last minute absences, Luxembourg couldn’t produce the same quality rugby we’ve seen in the last games. Not the fault of the players brought in, tough. They met the expectations, showed the team doesn’t have only 15 players and fully deserved the opportunity, but the lack of routines and pace was too obvious.

Both teams didn’t play well, with lots of interruptions due to handling errors or penalties. However, Luxembourg was always the best team on the pitch with glimpses of brilliance.

The game started well for Luxembourg. On the 5th minute, the forwards took the ball to the far right of the pitch. From there the ball ran all the back line and Christopher had just to run and score. Impressive. Four minutes later, Christopher scored his second with another nice move in the backs. Benji converted both to set the score 14-0. After these early and easy tries the game went into a festival of handling errors, consecutive turnovers and penalties and we were even lucky when an handling error a couple of meters from the score line, prevented Liege from scoring just before the referee whistled half time.

Thanks to a better organization and attitude in second half, Luxembourg spent almost all the 30 minutes in the opposition half. However, there was always a handling error or a positional mistake to stop the decisive pass. Eventually, taking advantage of the opposition collapse, Luxembourg scored 3 tries in the last 10 minutes. On the 49th minute, Stanley caught a ball in the air at half way and went thru the defense almost without challenge. 2 minutes later, the forwards worked hard in the ruck to give Christophe his first hat-trick. On the 55th minute the game ended as it started with another magnificent try. The forwards took the ball to the far left, recycled it to the backs and this time Matthew had space in the middle to score. Benji converted two the set the final score at 0-33.

This elaborated but well deserved victory puts Luxembourg at the top of the table.
